Segment aired 20 September 2015. In his youth Pope Francis was a bouncer in a night club. Sixty years later he is Pope and has opened the door to the Catholic Church to everyone. The Pope is especially trying to reach the dispossessed, the disbelieving, the wayward and the wicked. Recently, he announced a welcoming path back to the church for those who have been through divorce and abortion. The Pope has declared 2016, the year of mercy.
What can America expect when the Pope visits? Does anyone know what to expect? God only knows, he is a Pope of surprises, says one man. He is so spontaneous and it makes people feel wonderful. Few Americans know the new Pope like Ken Hackett, United States Ambassador to the Holy City. One man says the first thing they will see, when the new Pope arrives, will be a pastor. If they do not know what a pastor is, they will learn quickly because he is genuine, he is intelligent and he moves from the heart. The Pope is someone who is not afraid. He is about the people who are in need and suffering, going through turmoil in their lives; he is trying to be there with them.
The Pope will arrive in the United States this week and will visit New York, Washington and Philadelphia. There will be many special moments during his visit because the Pope understands that the general audience is not about the Pope. It is about thousands of burdens, dreams, hopes and regrets. Everyone is there to be lifted by this 78 year old man.
The Pope has this style of life, maybe a little Latino, South American, he is very sincere about meeting people and he fluctuates between laughing and being serious. He seems to be special for his humility because he forsakes what most people desire and he has the power to give them what they need. The Pope has a true desire to help those in need.
