Segment reviewed 5 September 2015, excerpts taken from Pastor Mark Driscoll’s video. In Genesis 1:31, God looked at his work and declared it to be very good. The sin, suffering and sickness that we endure today are the result of our rebellion. Man has created this world to be a place of absolute horror. The conditions that man lives with today are our doing, not God’s.
Jesus says there is a kingdom and He is the King. For those who pass through the narrow door, returning back to their king, there is a Heavenly Kingdom. In addition, there is an eternal Hell. Hell is not a place for philosophical speculation. Hell does exist! Heaven and Hell exists for Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists and everyone else. The fact is, there is a real Hell that will be full of people. The narrow door divides Heaven and Hell, it says in the book of Luke. Many will not pass through the narrow door. Many people will not make the right choice when they have the opportunity and they will die on this side of the narrow door. Everyone will stand before God for their deeds and their misdeeds. Some people say they do not believe in that. It does not matter. God says it is true, God makes the rules, and what God decrees is going to happen no matter what we believe.
Here is some food for thought for our Muslim brothers and sisters. Muslims believe that Jesus is a prophet but not God. If you are right, how can a man be a prophet of God if he is a liar? Jesus talked more about the reality of Hell than any other person. A prophet is one who delivers messages from the One true God. If Jesus delivered this message, and He did, then Hell must exist. Christians believe that Jesus is God, how can we call God a liar, when He says there is a Hell?
The Bible says we must all come to Jesus or we will experience the torments of Hell for eternity. If I am wrong about this, then I have nothing to lose and everything to gain but if you are wrong, you have everything to lose and nothing to gain. This is such an important issue that will affect your existence for eternity, do you not believe it is worth your time to search the matter out? Everyone is going to live for eternity but the question is, will we live in Heaven or in Hell?
Jesus explains Hell in the most painful of terms. He speaks of Hell more than anyone else in the Bible. Jesus likens Hell to a place on conscious torment that is eternal and unending. Imagine your whole body being burned by fire, but your body does not die and the pain continues on and on forever. Jesus says it will be a place where people will be weeping profusely and they will be gnashing or grinding their teeth in agony.
By the way, contrary to the belief of most people, “Satan does not rule Hell, Jesus does”. Jesus is Lord of all. It says in Revelation 14, that Satan, demons and those who do not pass through the narrow door will be tormented forever in the presence of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and His holy angels. Jesus rules Heaven and Jesus rules Hell. Jesus says in John 5, that He is the One that will judge us. Sometimes I hear people say, you are not my judge, you cannot judge me, the truth is Jesus is going to judge us all. After we die, there is no opportunity for salvation. Our death will slam the door of salvation to us and our chance to accept salvation is gone forever. Unsaved people will stand before Jesus in judgement and He will sentence people to Hell according to the degree of wickedness that was present in their life. That means that some people will suffer more than others but all who fail to pass through the narrow door will suffer forever. Many preachers are cowards, they will not tell their congregation this truth, for fear their followers will depart and no longer give their tithes. Those preachers must stand before God someday also and they will have to explain why they did not teach their people the whole truth. A pastor’s job is to love their flock well and teach the truth. The Bible says that teachers will be judged more harshly than others.
Every person must make their decision based on the true facts. It is a pastor’s job to get all those facts into the hands of their flock. Some people are going to Hell. The Bible says that people in Hell will see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They will not be in the place of torment but somehow those people in Hell will be able to see them. People in Hell will be able to see the love and the mercy of God and for all of eternity those in Hell will regret their folly and the opportunity they allowed to pass them by. You can blame only yourself if you miss out on Heaven.
